Kelp Study Series

This series combines relief printing of kelp with backgrounds of open water or the interface of sky and sea. Kelp appears to float or hover like clouds. They vary from crisp, delineated prints to fractured, dissolving ones. As the series progressed, the background washes began to predominate, leading to the Surface series. Begun in 2001, the most recent work, Kelp Study 40, was done in 2023.
